ART BACKWASH: Design Batting Average is a weblog post by Von Glitschka, a designer and illustrator based in Oregon, talking about the development of a logotype for a client. The sad part is that the nice designs never made it to acceptance for some reasons  which might sound familiar to someone in the same business.

Del.icio.us has released the new interface version which was a subject to rumors and lots of talk for ages as it seems. My first impression is that a few glitches have really been optimised and ironed out. See for your self: the new Delicious.

I just discovered this little service placing tweets on a 3D globe: twittearth.

A wonderful little clip can be found over at collegehumor: If fonts were people is a hilarious short film with the most commonly used fonts as the main characters discussing whether Zapf DIngbats should be treated as a font as well.

After a long time this nifty little usability testing app has finally arrived for everybody: Silverback — guerrilla usability testing. Once again the goodness only comes to the Mac.

Digsby might be a solution to get all the things under control again. All your typical services (IM, email and social networks) in one little app. Windows only so far, Mac and Linux apparently coming up soon. Of course you could use something like Flock as well which even gives you blogging and browsing as well … all build upon the Firefox / Mozilla Goodness.

Just before the weekend you might consider to indulge in wonderful artwork with lots of spectrum use. Very nice indeed …

A little birdy just told me about a fairly new CSS/HTML/WYSIWYG editor with JavaScript and Ruby On Rails support called flux. The application is available for the Mac and requires some time to get used to it. It looks very leopard-ish and is priced at just below 70 USD. I have not mentioned this useful resource before but you might want to check out the webdeveloper’s handbook. Sorted by genre and type Vitaly Friedman lists a variety of good reads and resource websites.

I have tried loads of little egg timer applications. Some of them just stopped working while the Mac OS moved on in version numbers, others where just badly done, some are just too much. I will try this one called minutes for a while and hope to be as good as the first impression that I got from it.

You might be just as frustrated to not be able to upgrade your print-workhorse-mac to leopard because you are in need of a non-crashing InDesign. Adobe just started the online version of Photoshop. When registering you get basic functionalities to edit and improve your photos. Storage is provided by Adobe (a nice 2 GB per user) and uploads to the major community sites are possible directly from your Photoshop Express library. Currently missing: layers, text tools and flickr upload, which is promised for the very near future as some sources report it.

As Matt Mullenweg describes it best when writing that wordpress.com is moving to a gmail-like space offering: From now on you can host your blog over there and upload up to 3GB of space for free. Make the best out of that!

I was able to resist installing an RSS-reader for ages (probably because I used Flock to surf the web and read news). But I just fell in love with the new, clean, simply, no-frills Vienna version which is free.

Personally I use dodgit.com quite often when in need of a disposable email address to avoid spam. If you want to choose another service here is a list of 20+ other services. A great collection for your bookmarks.
